Fewture Models Chii by Art Storm|Lilics

Alright, first up from the newly owned figures is the Fewture Models Chii by Art Storm/Lilics. I had been interested in this figure since seeing fellow Team Blue member Lovelyduckie's review on her, and finally acquired her. If you're even the least bit interested I suggest you check out her review because it's great. Chii is from the manga/anime Chobits, whom I'm pretty sure everyone out there has at least heard of. I hold it responsible as the gateway show to my otakudom. Anyways I got this figure used for $35 USD from a figure sale Dancing Queen was having, originally I had thought about buying her but the asking price was a bit high, especially after I got curious about the figure more and re-read Lovelyduckie's review, and found her still selling at Robert's Anime Corner Store for about $40. Dancing Queen gladly lowered the price for me, making me unable to resist the buy. So once again thanks to both of my fellow Team Blue members, without them I wouldn't own this lovely figure. This was one impulse buy I'm glad I made.

I decided to try and show all the details in the figure since I rather like the attention to them in this figure. You probably notice a few places where paint has come off, this isn't a brand new figure after all, and with a pose like this you can expect such a thing to happen over time. You'll see the base is quite huge though not too big for the figure, and there's some paint that's been transferred onto it. Well, the very fabric I used for the background here is what I'm using for my base until I find something more suited. She might be pre-owned and an old figure but I'd like to keep her from further damage. I think the base is probably the only real thing I would have complained about had I bought this figure when she first came out. It's just asking to scrape paint off her really. Even though she's not in perfect condition I have no complaints. She was made back in 2006 and I can happily say she's a welcome addition to my collection. I really couldn't ask for a better looking Chii figure, although I would be ecstatic if Max Factory made a Figma of her (honestly don't see it ever happening but I can daydream right?). I really love the outfit, even if it's up a little too high in the back. She's also quite large, being 1/5 scale or 10 inches long. It's nice to have a figure that's not standing once in a while as well. It's a good figure for a low price, and if you like Chobits I really couldn't recommend a better PVC yet. There are a few other Chobits figures I plan on getting when possible though, so we'll see. Once again thanks to Dancing Queen for selling this to me.

Chobits was the first anime that I bought the entire series on DVD, even though I originally downloaded and watched it. I enjoy both the subbed and dubbed versions pretty much equally, which doesn't happen all that often. If I had never seen Chobits I wouldn't be the person I am today most likely. Before it, there was Miyazaki films and things like Sailor Moon. Of course, since then I've become addicted to all things Japanese, and I probably watch about as much anime as the average American watches normal TV.

Friday the 13th Loot

Well, it's still only the 13th over here. So how many people are superstitious? Do you believe any of those things? Usually people think of Friday the 13th as an unlucky day, and for Haruhi fans I guess it was just that. Seeing as how Kadokawa trolled the world about the Haruhi-chan youtube show. I did get woke up unusually early by a phone call from my cousin's baby this morning.. that was weird. But all-in-all it was a good day because I got 2 packages at the same time, one via EMS and one from the mail box. The first package to arrive was from Hobby Search, I picked up Figma Sun Seto from Seto no Hanayome and Ryomou Shimei from Ikkitousen, as well as a Clannad pouch with Nagisa's silhouette on it. I'm using the pouch for my Nintendo DS although it's big enough to carry slightly larger things.

A few minutes after that package came in we went and checked the mailbox and found Chi waiting for us. I bought Chi used from fellow TeamBlue member DancingQueen a few weeks ago when she was selling some of her unwanted figures, couldn't resist picking this one up as I'd seen a nice review of her a while back on Lovelyduckie's blog. I'm proud to be the new owner of this Chi, finally I have an actual PVC of her, and a 1/5th at that? Well, anyways I just wanted to do a little update since I'm not sure which one I'll be reviewing first, but I'll do a post for each one of them soon.

No, these three pictures aren't meant to be good, I was just trying out the night shot mode of the camera for fun. Real pictures will follow in the reviews.

Back To The Future

First off I'd like to apologize for the lack of blog posts. It's been just over a week since I made one and this is my first one of the month. I really don't have much of an excuse. I have plenty of ideas for posts, but I didn't want to just throw in filler, and I haven't had batteries for my camera until yesterday. I've been watching a fairly heavy amount of anime for the last week. Also, I've been trying to free up computer space and back-up all the things I have saved on it, burning data discs and what not. Anyways I'll have plenty to post about this month, and I stocked up on batteries now so expect me to get back to things. I'll probably be changing my banner soon just for fun, and I've also been looking into other blog sites/hosts with the possibility of moving my blog elsewhere. Alright enough of me though, here's a recent order that came in last week, the only thing missing here is my wife's xxxHolic bag with Yuuko on it, I'm sure she'll blog about it soon enough. Speaking of xxxHolic, I really want to get the next few volumes of the manga. I'll wait for now though, money is going to be tight with all the orders already made and the fact that I need to go to the dentist in a couple days.

Mokona Modoki plush from xxxHolic and double-sided Chii pillow from Chobits, both bought at a store here in the states online called Toycup. Lately I've been buying things from the states less and less and strictly sticking with shops overseas because of the slow speed and terrible customer service of most of the stores over here. But Toycup took 3 days (not including Labor Day and Sunday) to get these to me along with my wife's bag, so I have to mention them here. They don't carry a really huge selection compared to other stores but they're worth checking out if you live in the U.S.

Recently bought manga

So my wife and I went to Barnes & Noble a few days ago and picked up some manga and they just happened to have one copy of the Chobits art book so I had to pick that up too. As we were arriving there by bus, a storm came in and we got caught out in it on the way home, cuz we missed the last bus going to our side of town and had to walk a nice distance. Luckily a neighbor of ours happened to be at a store that we stopped in to get out of the rain and was kind enough to offer us a ride the rest of the way home ^^

If you're wondering about Sgt Frog, it's for me to read to my son while he looks at the pictures, until some day he can read it all on his own. He's recently taking a liking to Keroro after watching a few episodes of the anime, and even I can't help but randomly say kero-kero-kero-kero from time to time now. XD

Chibi Otaku Fanboy Goes Wild!

Well just as I was about to post something simple like my desktop or a random picture or video, the mailman came to deliver a package we've been waiting for all month. I won't say the store I bought it from because I probably won't be buying from them again any time soon. I made the order on the 2nd and it just arrived today, nothing was back-ordered or out of stock either. On top of that the box was broken in half and taped shut, and appropriately marked damaged. Luckily everything inside was o.k. though so nothing to be upset about.

So here's the contents of this package. 1 Haruhi Suzumiya wall scroll, 1 SOS brigade button, and last, although most important, a 6 inch plush Chi doll for my son, who's been a Chobits fanatic since uh, well, probably since he was old enough to see a computer screen and watch cartoons. Yeah he's only 4 years old but he LOVES Chi. He was the one who spotted the mailman pulling up and gasped and ran to the door frantically opening it in excitement. So, I got permission from him to post his picture up here with his new Chi. The wall scroll and button were for my wife, I'm sure she'll post different pictures today on her blog too.

Now he wants to sit down and watch his favorite anime today. Good thing we got the complete collection lol.

Figures and Wall Scrolls

So I'm still awake at almost 1 AM and I figure I'd just throw some random photos up to get started and link you to my figure collection. I've only recently began collecting anime related character figures, mainly because of the discovery of Figma which I will be posting pictures of the two I currently own on here. Of course, I have to give credit to DannyChoo because if I hadn't found his awesome site while looking for information on Japan I wouldn't even have become a figure collector. I always admired figures when I saw them but the price and the practicality turned me off, because normal figures aren't poseable like a figma is, and the prices are so high for something that can only sit on your shelf or desk and look pretty. Of course I will admit there are plenty of figures I've got my eyes on that aren't figmas, but figmas are what I'm the most excited about. So far I have only Yuki Nagato and Haruhi Suzumiya but as you'll see from my collection I have a few more pre-ordered. I'm really looking forward to the Miku Hatsune figma the most of all I think. Still no word on when it'll be out though. Alright enough talk, here's some pictures of my current collection which is just starting out.

Yuki Nagato & Haruhi Suzumiya

Also, a non-figma that you could expect from someone going by Persocom-san if you've any idea what a persocom is. Chobits very own Chi. You'll have to bare with me, I'm not very talented at taking pictures of figures yet, I'm only used to shooting scenery and people, and I'm only using a digital camera. I didn't bother photoshopping these yet to make them look better so you're left with the raw photos. Chi on the top, Haruhi and Yuki on the bottom.

I'll definately work on my figure photography skills more, and keep updating when I do take new pictures. I suppose now I'll show you my small collection of wall scrolls? Recently I got sick of posters because they end up beat up and torn so easily, especially when moving. Wall scrolls are so much better because they roll up easy, don't need tape, staples, tacks or nails in them, and the material is thicker and sturdier than plain poster paper. Wall scrolls for the win! I kept the box from one that I ordered online for storage. I only have two so far but one more should be showing up in the mail within the week.

Well then I guess that's enough for this entry. Goodnight!
